1867 (Feb 15), conflagration folded letter from Yokohama to Ganges, France, showing "Yokohama/15 Fevr 67/Paq.Fr.S No 1" handstamp, manuscript "10" rate marking, with reverse showing Marseille and Lyon Apr 3 transit and Ganges Apr 5 arrival. A splendid and scarce example mailed aboard the Alphee after The Great Fire, Fine to Very Fine.

Lot 2507

1868 (May 30), folded business letter from Yokohama to Lyon, France, "via Marseille", showing "Yokohama/A/MY 30/68" origin c.d.s., franked on front by 4¢ and 8¢ (2) Hong Kong Queen Victoria, which are tied by black "B62" killers. Cover transited through Hong Kong on June 10, with Lyon 25 July arrival. A splendid example to the stamps cancelled in Hong Kong prior to the arrival of the "Y1" killer, Fine to Very Fine.

1869, Market Report from Yokohama, vertical pair of France 4c Laureate (lower stamp partly skinned), tied by "5118" of Yokohama to 1869 printed price current, dated April 15, 1869. This represents one of two pages, the other not present, with destination and postmarks. Never the less a desirable and very scarce item, Fine to Very Fine.

1871 (Feb 10), stampless cover from Amsterdam to the French Post Office in Yokohama, showing Amsterdam Feb 10 origin c.d.s. along with manuscript rate marking and French "Pays Bas/11 Fevr 71/Lille-Paris B" transit, with reverse showing Marseilles Feb 19 transit and French "Yokohama/6 May 71/Japan" receiver. Fresh, an interesting and uncommon usage during the Franco-Prussian war, Very Fine.

1873 (May 6), cover from Yokohama to Paris, franked by 25c Ceres issue in the form of a single and strip of 3, cancelled by Yokohama "5118" lozenge killers, addressed to Mrs. Lebron at Paris. Front shows "Yokohama/6 Mai 73/Bau Francais" c.d.s., with reverse showing Paris, 27 June receiver. Fresh and Very Fine, scarce.

1876 (Oct 28), Degron-kun cover from Yokohama to Offranville, France, addressed by Georges Fauconnet to his father, franked by 10c (pair) and 80c Ceres issues, tied by Yokohama c.d.s.'s, with French transit on front. Reverse shows bold Degron type 1 handstamp, with red, rectangular handstamp of Shimbashi station. A rare example of the Degron system; Japanese stamp cut out from reverse, generally Fine to Very Fine.
