Lot 341

China, 1897, Imperial Chinese Post, part set, ½¢ to 50¢ (Scott 86-94. Chan 92-100), stuck down on a large piece of Postal Memorandum paper form, number I.-24. 4¢ is struck on top of a Kiukiang Dollar dater in brown dated 1897 OCT 1. It is signed and written on top as "Issued on 1st Oct. 1897". A rare historical document showing the issuing of these ICP values of Kiukiang on this date. This was mostly likely kept by the Kiukiang Post Office as a record. Although the issue appeared in Beijing earlier, this shows that the ICP stamps were received only on 1897 Oct 1st in Kiukiang, o.g., hinged; small piece of paper missing at lower left corner, Very Fine, an important showpiece for an ICP exhibit.
Estimate $50,000 - 75,000.
