Hawaii, c. 1878-88, short paid cover from New York to Honolulu, with U.S. 1873, 3¢ green (158), two singles each tied by NY duplex cancel on cover addressed to Gen. J. M. Comly US Minister Honolulu; originally mailed with one 3¢ green on April 10 and marked "SHORT PAID" and "due 3" later crossed out in blue crayon; reverse has a second stamp tied by April 12 postmark and a manuscript notation "unpaid postage affixed by Geo. F. Hopper, Supt New York Post Office"; stamp on front bisected during the opening of the cover, scarce usage.
