China, 1940 to Netherlands with routing flimsy, franked $9.55 by Martyr issue including block of 4 #360 ($2) with 16 Jan 1940 transit stamp and large purple Hong Kong hand stamp on face. Very rare directional "Par Avion" flimsy with manuscript "De Shanghai/Pour Palestine" and faint purple straight-line "By Imperial [Airways] Service" applied. A large blue X on the flimsy indicates that air service terminated, presumably in Palestine. A remarkable piece of wartime Chinese postal history, Very Fine.
