(Scott 287), horizontal pair, plus 1895 2¢ Type III Washington (#267), each cancelled by small target; "Registered/OCT 20 1898/Newton Station, Newton Center, Mass." handstamp in violet below, with matching Clinton, Iowa receiver on reverse; 4-centers oxidized to brown (rather handsome, actually), a Very Fine cover. Antrim, Ireland; the stamp tied by Washington, DC bars cancel dated Oct. 1, 98, with OC 13 Belfast and Ballymoney receivers on reverse; original typed letter, on Executive Mansion/Washington letterhead accompanies; stamp with a few perforation tips toned, cover with travel wear, but a pretty addition to any Trans-Mississippi collection, F.-V.F.
