Special Delivery, 1885, 10¢ blue (Scott E1), Pre-First Day, Milwaukee, WI, tied by a September 30, 1885, 12:30 p.m. Milwaukee, Wis.duplex cancel on a 2¢ Entire (U277) to Clinton, Iowa; a contemporaneous pencil notation reads "1st Special Delivery from Mil. P.O"; backstamped "Clinton, Ioa., Oct 1, 7AM, Rec'd"; stamp has a corner crease (apparently pre-use), cover is reduced diagonally at left and has two small tears at bottom, otherwise Very Fine.
Scott $17,500 for Oct 1 FDC.

One of only two recorded covers used prior to the generally accepted October 1 first day of use. The other cover is dated September 29.

Registry, 1911, 10¢ ultramarine (Scott F1), First Day, Pittsburgh, PA, tied by Pittsburgh, Pa. double ovals on a 2¢ Entire (U413) sent registered to Carnegie, Pa., red "Registered No." handstamp on front with matching Pittsburgh December 1, 1911 c.d.s.s on reverse, along with Carnegie receiver the next day and a 1911 Christmas Seal, Extremely Fine, Only Three Known.
