[Bisected] 1904, 2¢ Louisiana Purchase vertical bisect (Scott 324), right half used in an unsuccessful attempt to pay the 1¢ Drop Letter rate, tied by a quartered cork cancel and addressed locally to Plainfield (N.J. - see next lot), marked manuscript "Due 1¢" with a 1¢ Postage Due (J38) tied by a similar quartered cork cancel, Very Fine.

[Officially Sealed] 1904, 2¢ Louisiana Purchase (Scott 324), tied by Jun 9, 1904 Brooklyn, N.Y. duplex on a cover to Chicago, Ill.; badly torn at lower right with magenta explanatory handstamp "Damaged by Cancelling Machine." and two Post Office Seals (OX11) used to "repair" the damage; with Jun 10 & 11 Chicago backstamps, Fine. A rare usage.

[Parcel Tag] 1904, 2¢ Louisiana Purchase (Scott 324), tied, along with a 50¢ 1906 (310), on a small address tag from a Registered parcel by two partial, mostly illegible 1904 Milton, Pa. duplexes; to Portland, Ore. with the address side of the tag featuring and illustrated corner card for "Samuel J. Shiner & Sons", manufacturers of cutting machinery, Very Fine for this.

[Parcel Wrapper] 1904, 10¢ Louisiana Purchase (Scott 327), horizontal pair tied by St. Louis Mo. double ovals on part of a wrapper with a full World's Fair parcel label handstamped "Ceylon Govt. Pavilion" and addressed to the Manager of the Tea Dept. at the Fowler, Dick & Walker Department Store in Evansville, Ind.; trimmed neatly for display to an overall size of about 5½"x6", Very Fine.

An interesting aside, iced tea was first popularized and commercialized at the Fair by Richard Blechynden, India Tea Commissioner and Director of the East Indian Pavilion.

[Postage Due] Unfranked World's Fair Postcard Charged Postage Due, canceled Sep 27, 1904 "EXPOSITION STA./ 1" duplex handstamp (Bomar St. L04-01) despite being unfranked; addressed to Boston with handstamped magenta "Held For Postage", then, upon despatch, "This is the mail for which you sent postage" with additional St. Louis postmarks on Oct 8 & 14, and a Boston backstamp on Oct 16; the card is a multicolor view of the Cascade Gardens by A.C. Bosselman with some edge toning, Very Fine.

[Received without enclosure] 1904, Louisiana Purchase complete (Scott 323-327), the complete set tied by Jul 7, 1904 Detroit, Mich. duplexes on a 2¢ entire (U358) addressed locally; handstamped purple "Received without enclosure at Detroit, Mich. P.O." (the flap was left unsealed by the sender and it's likely that there never was an enclosure); somewhat soiled, but otherwise a vf and unusual usage.
