A very scarce double-rate cover to the West Coast.

1893, Columbian, 8¢ magenta, faint right-reading impression on reverse (Scott 236 var), strong and dramatic stamp offset on reverse in each corner, o.g., never hinged, Very Fine to Extremely Fine, One of the nicest examples available of this intriguing variety which has since been de-listed as "printed on both sides", with 2010 P.S.E. certificate graded VF-XF 85J.
SMQ VF-XF 85J; $275 as normal item.

1893, Columbian, 8¢ magenta, faint right-reading impression on reverse (Scott 236 var), right margin horizontal strip of 4, o.g., rarely seen multiple of this old-time variety, the printing on reverse inverted to that on the front; clearly right-reading, with much of the wording and frame elements recognizable; fresh and clean, with intact perforations; evidence of mount or hinges, Fine to Very Fine.
