1851, 1¢ blue, type Ib (Scott 5A), position 8R1E, slightly overlapping a #11A, tied by blue grid cancels to cover Charleston, SC; photocopy of enclosure (a cross-written letter) datelined "Hampton April 19th 1852"; #5A margins clear at top and right (slightly in at left and bottom) with a nick and small tear at upper right and a diagonal crease at top left, cover with surface scrapes at left, Fine to Very Fine usage.
Scott $15,500 as solo on cover.

1852, 1¢ blue, type IV (Scott 9), top sheet margin single (position 8R1L), used with a 3¢ dull red (11A) strip of 3, all tied by Rochester, N.Y. c.d.s., Sep 4 (1854) on a cover to Vittoria, Canada West; red "Ud. States, Paid 6d" in arc Canadian entry handstamp, backstamped Brantford, Sep 5, and Vittoria, Sep 6 (one atop the other); 1¢ has a small corner crease at the upper left (entirely in the sheet margin), the 3¢ strip, with margins nearly all around, has a small corner crease at the upper right, Fine to Very Fine. A most uncommon 10¢ franking.

1851, 3¢ copper brown, type II (Scott 10A), horizontal pair, position 18-19L2E, tied by a blue Philadelphia c.d.s. on a cover to Astoria, Oregon Territory; pair with a large margin at the left but just touching or just in on the other sides, left stamp with a small crease and the right stamp with slight soiling, otherwise Very Fine, with a 2013 P.F. & 2021 Crowe certificates.

1855, 10¢ green, type II, III & I (Scott 14, 15, 13), vertical strip of 3 with the type III bottom "shells" trimmed away, tied by Washington D.C. c.d.s.'s, Jul 20, 1857, on a folded cover to Mexico; the rate was 20¢ per half-ounce so the apparent double weight letter was (manuscript) "Returned for postage due 10 cts" and a fourth 10¢ (type II) was added and tied by another Washington c.d.s. (Aug, day not struck up); handstamped "12" (reales due) and a partial Aug 23 Vera Cruz oval; cosmetically refolded at the bottom, Fine to Very Fine, with a 1996 P.F. certificate.
