STOCKHOLMIA 2019 Private Treaty Sale
Lot 29

Finland, 1856, Coat-of-Arms, 5k blue (Scott 1. Facit 1 I b), horizontal pair, simply a stunning piece of Finnish postal history: one of the two known unused pairs of Finland's first stamp, with near proof-quality printing and deep color. The vertical crease between the stamps affects neither, and may date from the time of use, the sheet having been folded to assist separation. Accompanied by 2018 Cyril Schwenson certificate noting that "the original gum has dried out and left hard visible surface and also overall brown toning which is normal for this issue with gum." Hinge (plus a couple remnants) on reverse mentioned for accuracy; Very Fine to Extremely Fine. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Price: $35,000; £27,450; €29,785; 350,000 SEK; HK$273,000.
