1903 (July 24), Cover from California to London, England, forwarded to Germany, and returned, a well-traveled item addressed to a Marco Newmark, batted about like a polo ball; 2¢ red entire (#U385) uprated by 1902 Series 1¢ (#300, 3) and 5¢ (304), and sent from Avalon, CA, on July 24, 1903; at London the address crossed out and forwarded to Stuttgart and thence to Berlin (or vice-versa; no German postmarks are present); bilingual German/French "Moved/No Forwarding Address" label on front, with multiple Washington, DC, Los Angeles and Santa Monica postmarks front and back tracing the letter's return trip; pointing hand Dead Letter Office handstamp ("Dead Letter Office/Received in Bad Condition/Oct 18 1903/Foreign Branch") on front with postmark on reverse, the damaged cover also receiving a US Post Office Official Seal (#OX11) at left; to top it all off: the sender had moved to Los Angeles in the meantime; in remarkable condition for all its travels, F.-V.F., an uncommon, and fun, addition to any postal history collection.
